Alcoholism and the crisis of the breakup of family
Ten years ago I did not drink without doubting and beating my wife, Sunja Kim, and I bothered neighbors with evil words and deeds. It was a miserable life. Nobody around me liked to stay with me. Everybody tried to avoid me.
My brothers felt great shame because of me and tried to commit me to a mental hospital. My wife, who had tried to understand me up until then, could not endure my rude and coarse words and
actions caused by drunkenness anymore and she left home with children.
One day in 1997, I was lying down on the floor of the vacant house after my wife left. I felt so wretched and miserable with myself. Afterwards I took more than 50 sleeping pills and exploded a can of butane gas to put an end to my life. But death and life were not in my hands.
My wife guided me to Manmin Joong-ang Church
My wife, who had left me, met Deaconess Younsook Kim and had attended the Daniel Night Prayer Meeting through the Internet at Ilsan local sanctuary. The loving God gave her His grace from the first day and she thoroughly repented of her past sins with tears for three days. After that she dreamed and in that dream, she saw the characters of "Manmin Joong-ang Church" and she was attending that church.
She registered at Manmin Joong-ang Church and received much grace through the messages of Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee. A month later she thought about me and about how lonely I must be and called me. She said to me, "Honey, How have you been? If we will attend church together, I know that we can live happily again. Shall we try?"
To my surprise, she did not mention my past bad life, but she felt mercy for me. I, who had eagerly waited for her contact, was very happy and moved out to Puchon City where she was living. When I went to her, she looked so happy and joyful. Her smile did not leave her while we were talking, and every word spoken and every action that she showed me that day gave me comfort and refreshment.
In October 1998, I was guided to Manmin Joong-ang Church and registered. When I listened to the messages of Rev. Dr. Lee, every word of the messages he preached every Sunday seemed to be for me. "How wicked I have been!" I used to indulge in liquor because I had no pleasure in this life, but the loving God came to me. I was so grateful for His grace that my tears did not stop and I did my best to abstain from drinking. When I thought about drinking, I felt pain in the stomach and still sometimes I drank because I could not overcome its temptation. But drinking always caused troubles like vomiting, and through this process I finally succeeded in totally abstaining from drinking.
Changed by the Word of life
My wife and I experienced God's blessing and guidance moment by moment, and our 24-hour life was happiness itself. I had a business in vegetables for 10 years. As I went to my place of business very early in the morning to get better vegetables, and when I came back home at night, I did not stop singing praises to God, "Everything in my life has changed. ~? New life was given since I was born again. ~?"
I tried my best in everything to be faithful to small things to repay the grace God the Father had given me, so I was entrusted with many God-given duties such as group leader, vice-leader of 2-3rd Men's Miission and 2nd Men's United Mission, cell leader, and member of Volunteers Brigade.
In my group were various people who were divorced or separated, or went bankrupt in business. I extended charity to them with rice and vegetables, and encouraged jobless people among them to work at my business center. My group members were refreshed in spirit and many of them came to gain good jobs. I was so happy with their employment and prosperity, and God rewarded me with the prize of the first-ranking group leader for two continuous years.
Overflowing blessing in my home and business
My wife and I willingly and joyfully gave mission offerings to Rev. Dr. Lee whenever he has traveled throughout the world for overseas crusades. Each time God opened new marketing places for my business or let gains of sales increase more than expected.
When I purchased many articles from wholesale merchants, I prayed to God that He would help me choose cheaper and better ones, and so I could supply my clients with better and cheaper articles. As a result, more and more clients gathered at my shop.
In the early March, I came to Rev. Dr. Lee to ask him to pray for a problem in the contract with a client. He prayed that God would work for the good in everything of my business. Ten days after his prayer, God gave me His answer. At first, I tried to have a contract with a client by a daily gain of five million Won (5,000 US Dollars). It failed but instead I made a contract with another client by a daily gain of seven million Won (7,000 US Dollars).
My friends and neighbors who remember my past life are surprised at my change, and praise me for my renewal at a church. I give all glory and thanks to the living God and I give real thanks to Rev. Dr. Lee who has led me to the word of life.
