Spectacular launch event in Seoul draws Christians from around the world

 SEOUL, KOREA (ANS) -- The Global Christian Network (GCN) was officially launched in Seoul, Korea, on Sunday, October 9, with a dazzling array of lasers lights, pyrotechnics, worship music, praise dance and Korean-style loud prayer.

The breath-taking launch of GCN was a multi-media mix of sound and music from Korean singers and dancers and also included a presentation of the flags of the nations that will soon be receiving the programming from GCN.
 Some of the 160 Christian leaders who had flown to Seoul from many different countries including Peru, Israel, Russia, Belgium, the United States, India, Spain, the Congo and Egypt, came on stage during the launch party and took part in a huge cake-cutting on stage.

They included: Maximo San Roman, the former vice president of Peru, Rosa Graciela Janarico, a congress woman in Peru, Vicente Dias Arche, a presidential candidate for Peru elections next year, Bishop Aziz Morgan, head of the Pentecostal Church of Egypt, Bishop Kankenza from Congo, Dr. Ricardo Reyes from U.S.A., Rev. Sergei from Nazareth in Israel, Dr. Del Mundo, vice minister of health for the Philippines.
The GCN launch was held at the Manmin Joong-Ang Church in Seoul which was also celebrating its 23rd anniversary. The church was founded in October 1982 by Rev. Dr. Jae-Rock Lee and its first service had just 13 people attending. It now it has 100,000 registered members and 3,800 branch churches around the world.
Johnny Kim, director of Manmin TV and secretary of the GCN board, said, "The main goal of GCN is to convey the life-giving message of Jesus Christ with the tangible evidences of the living God to people all over the world, efficiently and effectively, through mass media in this digital revolution era."
 Chilean-born Nestor Colombo, President and Executive Director of GCN, who was one of the main speakers at the launch said later, "We have big dreams and a grand vision and it is both a privilege and an honor to be a part of the network at this stage as we work to expand our reach to many nations, tribes, and tongues."

Incorporated in June of 2004 in Atlanta, GA, the vision of the network is to see the powerful message of Jesus Christ presented in the richness of diverse cultures through the creation of original and innovative programs broadcast via satellite around the world. GCN purposes to produce, distribute and broadcast high quality international, Christian and family-value programming to local and regional affiliate stations and networks around the world first in English and eventually in as many as five different languages.
ON AIR FROM EMPIRE STATE BUILDING IN NEW YORK CITY
As the GCN team make preparations to eventually broadcast by satellite, it is already reaching for the sky from New York's Empire state Building. At 12 midnight, September 1, 2005, GCN launched its first 24 hour transmissions via Channel 17 - WEBR in New York City.
WEBR - Channel 17 is a low power, UHF station, currently operating in the heart of Manhattan from its transmission site on the 82nd floor of the Empire State Building. The channel sends a 2 kilowatt signal from an altitude of more than 1,000 ft. to New York City and surrounding areas with an estimated footprint covering more than 12 million households.
 A spokesperson said, "GCN programming is a varied mix of styles and formats. The weekly grid includes magazine-style, talk, teaching, musical, cultural, and inspirational programs; special events; crusades; international news and commentaries; documentaries; children's programs, and short and long features. In addition to varied formats and styles, GCN will feature programming from around the world first in English in 2005 and subsequently in Spanish beginning in 2006. Program partners include producers in the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Russia, India, Spain, Honduras, Guatemala, and South Korea."

In addition to transmission via WEBR, the network is currently airing 3 hours of daily programming via La Familia Cosmovision, a national cable network reaching more than 14 million households in 300 cities across the country.
A GCN spokesperson said, "The Global Christian Network is an emerging broadcast alternative founded by a diverse group of international broadcast professionals, including station and network owners, program producers, and media ministry representatives from Russia, New Zealand, England, Spain, Korea, Australia, Guatemala, Honduras, the United States, and Chile."
One of the Christian leaders who traveled to Seoul for the GCN launch was Igor Nikitin, President of the Association of Christians in Russia (ACCR) and Director of an extensive television network across the former Soviet Union.
He said, "There are a million Russian-speaking people living in New York I will do everything in my power to let them know about GCN and how they can watch the programs."
When asked if he planned to have some of the GCN programs in Russia, he said. "We are right now five satellites spreading the Gospel pretty well all over the world except to New Zealand and Australia. GCN has some very high quality programs and we plan to use them for our television as well."
Ashvin Dhyriam, director of GoodNews Television India, based in Chennai, told ANS, "GCN has commenced in an appropriate time as the world is going through so many changes. Just as the name suggests, I believe that GCN is truly going to be global in approach, not only in programming but also in networking with other television stations across the Globe.
"I strongly believe in these last days, networking is going to be a key part in bringing the whole concept of the Gospel and GCN is going to be a light house in this regards.
"We are GoodNews Television India look forward to working closely with GCN in the future."
GCN Headquarters is located in the northeast area of Metro Atlanta, on the thoroughfare that runs between great football rivals Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. Atlanta is not only one of the world's most international cities and home to numerous international giants in the television industry -- including CNN, TNT, TBS, Superstation, Cartoon Network, The Weather Channel, and others; but it is also houses the headquarters of many Christian and family-friendly media ministries and corporations.
GCN's offices occupy approximately 10,000 ft. of installations and house both administration and production and broadcast facilities. The building is situated on 2 acres of land which will accommodate a future satellite uplink facility for the Network. In addition, the organization has plans underway for converting the 3,000 ft. warehouse into a full production studio.
