At a time when the importance of television broadcasting ministry is at its greatest
Of all forms of mass media currently available, the position and the weight of television broadcasting are strengthening day by day. This is because, at the dawn of a new millennium and in an age of information-oriented society, television's role and significance are on a steady rise as the volume of intellectual information continues to increase. In our world today, no other forms of communication can replace the sense of presence and simultaneity and the popular appeal provided by the means of broadcasting. At such a time, Korea's Christianity has accepted the importance of mission work through television broadcasting and has been striving to make the most of it. Due in large part to the development of satellite communication, many churches today in Korea are conducting worship services via satellite. Prior to 2000, Manmin Joong-ang Church had been transmitting 900 minutes of sermon messages every week ? by far the most amount of airtime by any congregation in the country ? on a variety of radio stations including CBS (Christian Broadcasting System) of Korea and many others around the world and Manmin TV was launched in January 2001 in an effort to more wholly accomplish the Providence of God.
Laying the foundation for GCN and its launch
As the news of the work of God's power manifested at "The 2000 Uganda Holy Gospel Crusade with Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee" in July 2000 was reported by the Cable News Network (CNN), the attention of Christian broadcasters around the world began to focus on Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee and Manmin TV. Then came the May 2004 founding of the Global Christian Network (GCN) with Christian broadcasters from 8 nations including the United States, the United Kingdom, Honduras, Guatemala, Russia, Australia, Spain, and Korea. GCN is a worldwide network of Christian broadcasting and has since introduced to world mission the most advanced means of broadcasting technology, established a multi-language interpretation system, and produced and distributed high-quality Christian-themed programs to scores of regional and regional associate networks for the Christian audience around the world. Headquartered at Atlanta, Georgia, GCN conducted experimental broadcast for 40 days from September 1, 2005 on over-the-air channels 17 and 27 in the metropolitan New York area, and it was officially launched on October 10, 2005 as a "gospel network" delivering life to the whole world.
Life-filled programs presenting the image of a true follower of Christ
GCN, in cooperation with Manmin TV, has been producing and broadcasting heartfelt and life-filled programs featuring the gospel of God the Creator and Jesus Christ and the news of the work of the Holy Spirit in an effort to present the image of a true Christian. GCN is also currently broadcasting highly appealing and top-of-the class programs produced by CBN International, which itself has established a worldwide network.
Expanding the horizon of Christian broadcasting from the US to the world
The potential viewing audience for GCN airing on over-the-air Channels 17 and 27 in the New York City area is approximately nine million people while GCN is also airing on the state-run RTDV of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the capital city of Kinshasa. In addition, the joint GCN-Manmin TV programs are carried via the NSS-6 satellite to all of Korea, Japan, the Philippines, China, and Taiwan in an effort to expand the coverage area to the rest of Asia. Holy God TV of France carries GCN-produced programs to Europe and the Middle East via the Hot Bird 3 satellite while TBN Russia features GCN programming to Russia, Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia via Express AM 2 and Hot Bird 2 satellites. RBN Rodnoy of the US transmits GCN programs to the US, Canada, and Mexico via the Telstar 5 satellite. The coverage area of Glorystar of the US expands throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico, while that of Honduras' JBN on the NSS 806 satellite includes all of the Americas. Alpha-Omega TV of Romania, via the Eutelsat satellite, is currently transmitting the gospel of sanctification and the work of God's power throughout Europe and to the Middle East. GCN programs are also featured on SS Music TV, a cable network in India, on 45 cable channels targeting 45 cities and towns throughout the Philippines, and in the Lahore region of Pakistan on JC TV. GCN is also expected to enter Daystar's program lineup in the near future.
GCN at its first anniversary
In October 2006, one year after its launch, GCN has developed into a truly worldwide network of the gospel of Our Lord. In an effort to repay the love of Our God who has blessed and made GCN programs available to all continents of the world except for Oceania, the Global Christian Network will make a greater effort to continue playing an active role as a spiritual mirror with the gospel of sanctification, always reflecting the image of a true Christian. At the founding of GCN, Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee, Senior Pastor of Manmin Joong-ang Church, has presented his vision for world mission: "The expansion of GCN will serve as an effective instrument in rapid achievement of world mission and people would not be able to deny or ignore its remarkable fruit."
[GCN Viewers' Feedback]
"My life has been transformed."
Loucil Jackson (female, 76; Brooklyn, NY)
Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee's messages are entirely based on the Bible and he has explained the kind of relationship I must have with the Lord. That's how my life has been transformed. I've always had a severe pain in my waist suffered from strokes. One day on television, after delivering his message, when Rev. Dr. Lee was about to pray for the sick, he told the audience to place their hands on the ill parts of their bodies. I placed my hands on where it hurt the most and soon afterwards, I realized I was no longer suffering from any kind of pain. I was simply astounded to have learned that a miracle of that magnitude could take place only by watching television! Hallelujah!
"I was so delighted to find Christian programming on an over-the-air channel!"
Pagani (male, 51; The Bronx, NY)
I was delighted to learn that Christian programming was available not on a cable channel but on an over-the-air channel. Nowadays, I tell everyone I come across about GCN. When a new believer recently visited me at home and watched with me the proceedings from one of Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee's overseas crusades from the past, he could not hide his astonishment. So I told him, "These people not only speak of the power of Our Lord's healing but are also showing the evidence so plainly."
