"It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days." (Joel 2:28-29)
"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18)
Our Helper the Holy Spirit assures people that Jesus is the Savior and was raised from the dead. When people believe in Jesus Christ from the heart, the Holy Spirit leads them to be born again and to gain complete salvation. The most fundamental and important duty of the Holy Spirit is to change the heart of men, allow for them to repent of their sins and to help them to love God. The Holy Spirit fulfills this duty through inspiration, influence, communication, and the fullness of spirit. As recorded in 1 John 5:7, the Spirit is the truth and helps God's children as much as their hearts are filled with the truth. Just as a competent businessman displays different capabilities according to the amount of the capital he possesses, the Holy Spirit can work for the children of God only according to how much they have filled their heart with the truth. In other words, we can receive different levels of help from the Holy Spirit according to our different levels of faith.
1. To Be Filled with the Spirit
Being filled with the Spirit means that the Holy Spirit helps us feel the spiritual space through the truth we have put into our hearts. Let's say a believer has cultivated her heart into spirit 10%. If she is filled with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit expands her spiritual heart of 10% like a balloon and fills her whole heart with the spirit for that moment. Then, her heart is full of happiness and joy in a spiritual space and has no flesh at all for just that period of time. Because her spiritual heart, a tenth of her heart, can govern her whole heart, it makes it possible for many kinds of spiritual works to happen without regard to the 90% of the heart that is fleshly. Thus, if we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we can possess the faith in which what seems impossible with human abilities is made possible, rejoice in the situations in which we cannot rejoice, and give thanks under conditions where we normally would not be able to give thanks. When we give thanks and rejoice by faith, our heart's desires are fulfilled and our prayers are answered more quickly. That's why our prayers are answered more quickly when we are filled with the Holy Spirit.
2. To Have Communication with the Holy Spirit
Having communication with the Holy Spirit refers to being able to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and being guided and supervised by Him. John 14:26 reads. "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." What does it mean by 'hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit'? The Holy Spirit is a being of the Triune God. He speaks to us in detail and reminds us of the word of truth of God. When we hear Him from within our heart and hear what He says, this is 'hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit'. For instance, the Holy Spirit sometimes reminds us in our hearts of specific passages of scriptures: "If anyone wants to take your shirt, let him have your coat also," "Love your enemies," "Among you, whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant," and so on. Some other times, the Holy Spirit tells us in our heart what we have to do and what we have to say. 'Supervision by the Holy Spirit' means the Holy Spirit moves our heart and causes us to want to do something. In some situations, the Holy Spirit moves our heart and causes us to pray or act with charity towards someone. As in Acts 16:6, when we have to make a decision the Holy Spirit manages our thoughts and helps us to realize what we should avoid and what we should pursue to be of greater benefit to the kingdom of God. 'Being guided by the Holy Spirit' is the result of acting according to what we hear and what He tells in our hearts. Through this guidance of the Holy Spirit He is able to manage and supervise us. But, if the Holy Spirit tells us something in our hearts and we fail to notice it, if we ignore or disobey what we heard, then He cannot keep on urging us and we will not hear His voice any longer.
3. To Be Inspired and Influenced by the Holy Spirit
'Being inspired and influenced by the Holy Spirit' means we can personally feel and experience firsthand the various works of the original space of God and realize depths of God's heart. By the inspiration and influence of the Holy Spirit we can feel the perfect goodness and unlimited power of God that cannot be felt in this world at all, but is displayed in His original space. Not only can we just hear the voice of God and see visions, but we are also able to understand the heart and will of God embedded in the visions explicitly. The influence and the inspiration come almost simultaneously with detailed realization. We can be inspired and influenced by hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit within original space of God and understand the meanings by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is as though you were suddenly transported from where you are to a beautiful park. The beautiful scenery with flowers and trees is instantly and clearly visible to your eyes, and at that same moment you sense and experience the beauty and peace in your heart. When we enter the original space of God and see visions and hear spiritual voices in the space by the help of the Holy Spirit, we are in the influence of the Holy Spirit. When we understand the depths of the heart of God imbued in those spiritual works, we are in the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. If we are influenced and inspired by the Holy Spirit, we can experience various works of the Holy Spirit and stay in the original space of God where we are kept away from any kind of forces of darkness. In that original space of spirit we can understand those secreted things that are to occur in the future and receive deep revelations concerning the spiritual realm (refer: 2 Peter 1:12).
