Why did they divide Jesus’ outer garments and cast lots for His tunic (2)
New Update
“Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece. They said therefore among themselves, ‘Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,’ that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: ‘They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing th ...

Jesus Christ is the only person worthy of redeeming mankind!

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.”
(Acts 4:12)

As explained in the last issue, the first condition for the redemption of mankind is that the Redeemer must be a man as a close relative to Adam, and the second condition for it is that He must not belong to Adam’s descendants.

The third condition for it is that the Redeemer must be strong enough to defeat the devil.

Leviticus 25:26-27 reads, “Or in case a man has no kinsman, but so recovers his means as to find sufficient for its redemption, then he shall calculate the years since its sale and refund the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and so return to his property.” It says that the one who sold the land must recover sufficient means to buy it back.
Similarly, the Redeemer must be strong enough to redeem mankind from sin. In a spiritual sense, power comes from sinlessness. So, sinless person can have so great power as to restore Adam and his authorities that had been handed over to the devil. Sinless redeemer can redeem Adam’s descendants and the authorities from the devil.
Since Adam sinned, all have been born a sinner because they inherit sinful nature from their parents, which is called ‘original sin.’ They also commit sins while living in this world, which are called ‘self-committed sin.’ Everyone has both original sin and self-committed sins.
Whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he is guilty of all (James 2:10), and whoever harbors a sinful desire in heart such as lust and hate is also guilty (Matthew 5:28; 1 John 3:15). Not anyone who commits sin in action or harbors sinful desire in heart once has the power to redeem mankind.
As conceived by the Holy Spirit, Jesus had no original sin inherited from the parents’ life energy. Since His birth, He completely observed the law. On the eighth day He was circumcised (Luke 2:21) and He committed no sin whatsoever but completely obeyed the will of God until He was crucified to death at 33 (1 Peter 2:22-24; Hebrews 7:26).
As He had neither original sin nor self-committed sin, Jesus was strong enough to save mankind and had the power to defeat the devil. According to the law which reads, “the wages of sin is death” He couldn’t be in bondage of the curse of the law and overcame death. On the third day of His crucifixion He was risen from the dead.
As He had no sin at all, His public ministry was accompanied with spiritual power, and all things obeyed His words. It was proved by manifestations of His power. By His power, evil spirits were driven out and infirmities were made well. Infirmities refer to what cannot be cured with human ability such as the blind, the deaf, or the lame. When He commanded the sea, the wind died down and it became calm (Mark 4:39).

Lastly and fourthly, the Redeemer must have life-giving love.

Suppose a poor man has sold his property but his nearest kinsman is wealthy enough to redeem it. If the rich relative does not love the poor man, he cannot get it back on the poor man’s behalf. In the same way, the Redeemer must pay for the penalty of sinners and sacrifice on their behalf to redeem mankind from the devil.
Ruth 4:1-6 tells of a widow Naomi who had been to the land of Moab due to famine but returned to Bethlehem. Among her husband Elimelech’s nearest kinsmen, Boaz told the first closest relative to redeem the land for Naomi in front of witnesses. But the man refused to do it lest it should ruin his own inheritance. Boaz was the next closest relative and bought the land back for her and married Ruth, daughter-in-law of Naomi. Boaz begot Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David.
All were doomed to death as the punishment of their sins, and the Redeemer had to be blameless and pay for the punishment on their behalf. He should also receive all kinds of ridicules and mockeries, and be brutally crucified to death. Thus, He should give His body as an atoning sacrifice for them. Jesus could not have done it without a love for mankind.
As He had true love for them, Jesus walked the path of suffering and died on the rugged wooden cross. He was the Son of God, but came to this earth in a human form and obeyed the will of God completely to the point of crucifixion. During His earthly ministry, He did only good, healed people of diseases, released them from the bondage of evil spirits, preached the gospel of the kingdom of heaven, and comforted them with the hope for heaven. He sacrificed Himself completely on the cross. The only one worthy to save mankind is Jesus Christ.
