[Feature Story] Better Understanding of the VeriChip™

The VeriChip™ is one of the products that apply implantable RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology

The VeriChip is the name of the device owned by VeriTeQ Acquisition Corporation though it was invented by the VeriChip Corporation (known as the PositiveID Corporation). In January, 2012, the VeriTeQ Acquisition Corporation acquired the VeriChip implantable microchip and related technologies. The device is implantable within people with using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system.

'RFID' is the abbreviation of Radio Frequency Identification, and the technology has been already widely used in our lives such as transportation cards most Koreans use for public transportations like bus and subway.

Beginning January 1, 2013, Korean government will enforce the Animal Protection Law that requires all dog owners throughout all cities and districts with population of more than a hundred thousand to have pets to be implanted with RFID devices. Thus, it can be expected that the implantable RFID device in animals will soon be widely distributed.

Personal information can be obtained through the unique 16 digit number

VeriChip is a coined word with the combination of two words: 'Verification' that means examination or confirmation and 'Chip' which is a small piece of silicon that is a part of semiconductor. Once scanned by RFID reader, the VeriChip implanted in human body responds with a unique number. It is then linked with information about the user held in a database for identity verification, medical records access, and other uses. The VeriMed™ system seeing limited use the U.S. uses RFID human-implantable microchip that links to a web-based Personal Health Record. With the system, doctors can gain patients' ID, medical history, and medical records.

Considering the Korean situation, each person's unique number can be his/her resident registration number, and the RFID chip with the number may be implanted in the people. In October, 2004, VeriChip™ received the U.S. FDA (Food Drug Administration) approval for medical use. Until now, it was the only FDA-approved human-implantable microchip among RFID products.

The VeriChip's transponders are cylindrical, measuring 11.5mm in length and 2.1mm in diameter. There are a computer microchip (which is capable of storing more than 70 trillion unique numbers) that contains the unique 16 digit ID number assigned to the transponder and a radio antenna inside. The outside of the transponder is a soda lime glass that has been specially selected for good contacts with human cells, which could hardly allow the transponder to move around in the body once injected. It is recommended to inject the chip in the forearm using a special syringe after local anesthesia.

The RFID products implantable within animals have been produced by Avid ID in the U.S., Virbac in France, and Trovan in the U.K. as well as the VeriChip in the U.S. They have been available in the market. Additionally, the VeriChip Corporation has developed an implantable chip in animals that can track their locations via GPS (Global Positioning System). It obtained a patent on the chip by the U.S. Patent Office in 1999. This chip is available in the market for uses of tracking wild animals and managing livestock.

The U.S. healthcare reform bill includes the provision about an implantable device and the enforcement of the law in 2013

The reason why the VeriChip is becoming a social issue is because the U.S. healthcare reform bill requires the implantable chip to be used in people. This reform bill is aimed at supporting more than 32 million uninsured Americans by requiring health care coverage for all U.S. citizens and legal residents. But the bill specifically includes "a class II device that is implantable," which stipulates the implantable RFID device in human bodies.

On Sunday March 21, 2010 the House of Representatives passed the healthcare bill and it was signed into law the following Tuesday by the U.S. President Barack Obama. It also says the law should go into effect "Not later than 36 months after the date of the enactment" which means not later than March 23 in 2013.

On December 13, 2010, a federal judge in Virginia declared the healthcare law unconstitutional, claiming that the federal law's requirement that citizens buy health insurance is unconstitutional. But the Supreme Court ruled that individual health insurance mandate is constitutional on a decision of 5 judges vs. 4 judges to uphold the law on June 28, 2012, which decided the law's enforcement.

This chip can be used for a system that monitors and controls all people of all countries

The VeriChip has been already used in many countries. Mexico is using the VeriChip in their law enforcement organizations including the Mexican Attorney General in order to differentiate them from the drug cartels in accessing secure locations and documents. Some night clubs in Netherlands, Scotland, and Miami in the U.S. are promoting the implantation of the VeriChip to its customers for VIP's easy access and payment. In those ways, it has been used for ID verification and e-commerce. It hasn't been tested in a clinical trial in human, but its technology has been greatly developed such that it can provide tracking service.

Revelation 13:16-17 says, "And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name." This tells us that the Antichrist will force all people of the whole world to receive the mark of the beast and monitor and control their economical and social activities all day and every day at the second half of the Seven-year Great Tribulation.

Of course, we've not yet come to know if the mark of the beast refers to the widely-used bar-code, the VeriChip system, or any other more highly developed form of technology. But we have to realize that this kind of system can be used to monitor and control the people of the whole world through the connection to a database of a super computer. If you understand it, you will realize how near the last hour is drawing. By doing so, we need to be quick to complete adorning ourselves as brides of the Lord.
