Elder Dongrok Yang (Lieutenant at the Department of Information Security of Dongjak Police Station)
Elder Yang, who is working in the Department of Information Security of the Dongjak police station, looks more like a friendly neighbor rather than a strict police officer. Having a generous heart he likes to help others. When he sees a poor old woman collecting paper boxes carrying them in a cart, he helps her push the cart to her destination and even gives her some money. Elder Yang has a good reputation as a Christian. He arrives early in his office and cleans up the desks for his colleagues and he also volunteers to assume the tasks that others try to avoid. His only habit is studying the Word of God. Though he previously had been a heavy smoker and drinker and involved in other useless things, he now loves to read the Word of God. He carries a pocket Bible and prays. He used to have endless questions such as, 'Why has the God of love made a place like Hell as well as Heaven?' 'Why did He not keep Adam from eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?' and so on. He had gone to church with fear of Hell and he had many questions for 30 years, but it was the book The Message of the Cross that caused him to realize the love of God. He came to read this book after becoming a Manmin member. He found that this book was the right book for him and it gave him clear answers to all the questions he had for so long. "After I understood the providence of salvation in which God gave His begotten Son; the heart of God, who had to make Hell though He wants all people to be saved; the reason why God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden, and established relativity through which God let us experience tears and sorrow to understand the true happiness in heaven, I found my thoughts were totally changed. And I was overwhelmed with indescribable joy." He realized how ignorant he was. He felt so sorry about still enjoying smoking and drinking as a deacon. He not only stopped smoking and drinking, but he abandoned all things he enjoyed and started his life of faith again with the heart of a new believer. To understand more deeply, he continuously read the Bible. He even read on the subway or bus and prayed. Whenever he had questions while reading Dr. Lee's books, he wrote them down to ask someone later. His wife was really surprised to see him, unlike before, come home early, read Christian books and attend worship services. She confesses that it's truly by the grace of God that her husband's bad temper disappeared and he became kind and gentle. Now the family is always at peace and they encourage each other in their church works. Their children also rejoice saying "my friends envy our family." Elder Yang confesses his hope is only in New Jerusalem saying "I know I still have my own will and frameworks that I have not yet gotten rid of yet, but just like the apostle Paul confessed 'I die everyday,' I will keep this as my motto and thoroughly put my old self to death."
